Our History

Supporting veterans and their families since 1921

The RSL Sub Branch was formed late 1921, working with the Kingaroy Shire Council and after a gift of land to the council now known as Memorial Park, the Foundation Stone of the Rememberence area was laid on the 25th of April 1921.

Initially the Sub-Branch operated form the School of Arts building. The Diggers Club was erected on the corner of Kingaroy and Alford Streets in the late 1930's, where the clock currently stands.

In 1946 the land was purchased by the Sub-Branch where the present building was erected fronting Kingaroy St.

It was in this year that the Memorial and Services Club was formed (See Link)

The Sub-Branch carries out a wide range of Welfare and Pension support activities for Veterans and their families, including the coordination of Legacy support. The experienced Advocates that operate on behalf of the Sub Branch and it's members should be your first point of contact with regard to any DVA support requirements.

A few support functions that you may not be aware of include:

  • A Drop-In-Centre which is operated in support of veterans and their families
  • The Sub-Branch owns and supports 12  Accommodation Villa's occupied by members or their dependents.
  • Your Sub Branch is an active and major sponsor of the 135 Army Cadet Unit of Kingaroy and surrounds
  • The Sub Branch has available a Welfare Bus which operates in support of Veterans and Sub Branch members
